At an event in Beijing, Intel has announced its latest 8th-generation Core i9 processors that have specifically been designed so as to improve your gaming and graphics-intensive content creation tasks on laptops.
It is based on Coffee Lake platform, the new chips, according to Intel will deliver up to 41% more FPS (frames per second) in gameplay, allowing 59% faster performance in video editing apps, in comparison to the previous generation chips that used the same discrete graphics hardware.
The new range is i9-8950HK processor that comes with six cores and 12 threads. It is first for Intel’s mobile chips, and it maxes out at the clock speed of 4.8GHz.
The chips also bears the all new Intel Core i5+, i7+ and i9+ badges that will go on to support Intel Optane memory tech, allowing you to use the inexpensive Optane RAM so as to speed up the traditional hard drives for faster boot times, app launches and other such similar to the speed boost, that you get when you use the SSD instead of HDD. It was last March that Intel had launched Optane memory and it is the first big push to get people to use it.
Numerous laptop companies have announced their new hexa-core i7 for 2018, including Samsung’s Odyssey Z, Asus’s ROG Zephyrus M with GTX 10701, 1080P 144Hz display, with a price tag of $2,199, the Gigabyte’s Aero 15 and 15X comes with a slim bezels display, along with discrete graphics, and finally not to forget Acer’s Nitro 5 with Core i7 and Optane memory support, with the starting price tag of $749.
Intel has, however, not yet informed when will the i9 become available, but it seems that the new chip will be featured with the upcoming new laptop models this very year. It might be possible that the Windows fan will want a longer battery life that might veer towards the current launches of ARM-based machines, games and content creators, working on VR and video might hold on to purchasing the newly launched devices until the i9 processor shows on the specifications.
The company concluded by saying,
“Consumers will also begin to see a new platform extension with Intel Core i5+, i7+ and i9+ badges on select systems, starting with today’s high-performance 8th Gen Intel Core mobile processors and desktop processors. This indicates they are purchasing a device that has the combination of Intel Core performance with the acceleration of Intel Optane memory.”
