Apple began selling iPhones in its stores and there were the usual lines waiting outside. This year though Apple seems to have done a better job of segregating people into pre-order lines and those that want to buy an iPhone 7 or 7 plus right there.
Some news reports are saying that the lines are smaller than previous years but that seems like a small grouse, especially when all analysts are betting that the first weekend sales for this generation of iPhones will be better than the 6S series.
People that are getting in line for an iPhone 7 plus need not bother though as they are already sold out in every color. For people that were hoping to pick up an iPhone 7 in the shiny black color are also out of luck since that model is also sold out across Apple stores.
In fact, it is clear that stocks of the iPhone 7 and 7 plus are going to be running low for quite some time to come. The best chance for people that cannot wait to get their hands on the latest generation of the iPhones is to go for a color that has been carried over from the last few generations.
An estimate of the breakup of all the orders coming in for the iPhone 7 says that the most amount of orders are for the two new black colors. That is to be expected, of course, however, it is unlikely that even Apple would estimate a split of 70% to black as compared to all other colors!
A similar rush towards the gold iPhone was made when it was first introduced although the rose gold (pink!) did not garner the same love from consumers.
Another big development for Apple and possibly its future line up of phones is that for the first time since it introduced a larger model, the plus model is outselling the regular sized model. The iPhone 7 plus is rocking a dual camera, which is by far the biggest upgrade to this year’s lineup and that could be one of the reasons why it is popular.
A split of almost 55% sales to the larger iPhone is being projected by analysts right now. Since all of the iPhone 7 plus models are sold out everywhere, it is quite possible that Apple did not see this popularity surge coming either.
Phones have been getting larger for a while now and in fact Apple was among the last holdouts to that trend. It looks like the market has spoken though and one can expect the screen sizes to only go up from here on in.
The Apple stock has been doing really well over the last few days as well as the market sentiment seems to be favoring an Apple record breaking quarter once again. Of course, the fact that Apple’s biggest rival, Samsung, is reeling from a huge controversy right now is also surely playing a part in this optimism. Any which way you look at it, all things are coming up Apple.
