Snapchat have announced that it is bringing two new and most awaited features that will help in boosting the credibility of the social experience. They are Group Video Calls and Mentions.
The company states,
“We designed Chat to feel less like texting and more like hanging out. That’s why when a friend opens Chat, their Bitmoji pops up to say “I’m here!” — and why your Chat conversations aren’t saved forever, by default.”
The Group Video Calls function is that when you tap on the video icon, the video call will start; notifying everyone in that particular group that a group calls has begun. However, it comes with an option of joining and not joining in that video call. It also comes with another option that is to join in only on the voice call.
The video call with the camera can be joined by up to 16 people. It is quite an impressive number in comparison with Google Hangout 10 and Messenger 6. The number of people in a group call can go up to 32 if few people are willing to go on voice call only. As usual with Snapchat, you will be able to send Lenses while on the call, giving yourself dog faces.
You will also be able to ‘Mention’ your friends in the Snaps. In order to do so, you will need to add the customary @ before mentioning the username, and the friend that you have tagged will be notified.
Snapchat in its blog states,
“Group Video Chat will begin rolling out to Snapchatters globally this week.”
